Savoy Automobile Museum: Georgia’s Newest Attraction Now Open in Cartersville
Small towns are synonymous with historic downtown squares, tree-lined streets, and a familiar friendliness that is genuine and welcoming.
Cartersville, Georgia meets these expectations but outpaces other towns of its size with many sophisticated surprises.
Only in Cartersville can you find multiple Smithsonian Affiliate Museums dedicated to iconic American subjects like science and space exploration, fossils and gemstones, cowboys and Indians, historic beginnings and our nation’s presidents. And, what more would you expect of Georgia’s Museum City? To open another amazing Georgia attraction, of course.
The Savoy Automobile Museum is the newest development of Cartersville-based Georgia Museums, Inc. opened December 8, 2021. Georgia Museums, Inc. also drives Booth Western Art Museum, Bartow History Museum, and Tellus Science Museum. Like these popular sister museums, the Savoy Automobile Museum was designed by the late Frank Bergman, whose visionary design has produced a gracious showplace that in his words is European Modern. What visitors will experience is a grand celebration of the automobile industry in a massive space that is sleek and shiny and allows for 360-degree viewing of every vehicle on display. Even the Savoy café offers a relaxing space with a panoramic view of the museum’s massive and immaculately landscaped 35-acre showgrounds.
Ignited by the enthusiasm and anticipation surrounding the Savoy Museum, Caffeine and Octane Host Skip Smith visited the museum midway of its construction to film Season 6 Episode 2 of the show which airs on NBC Sports Network. He knew big things would be rolling in, like the 1953 Kaiser Dragon he drove in the show, “a car of details” he called it. The details became even more prevalent as he took a peek inside the museum garage. Just a few of the noted treats in store a custom hot rod 50 Ford, a Studebaker supercharged Golden Hawk, and the 1960 Chevy Biscayne that Smith said “looked like Mother’s grocery getter on the outside, with a big block under the hood made for street racing.” Smith summarized his visit to the Savoy Automobile Museum, marveling “Every car has a story.” Few have had a journey like the museum’s namesake 1954 Plymouth Savoy, but this story is one that you’ll have to uncover with a visit to Cartersville, GA.
The Savoy Automobile Museum is located at the intersection of US 411 and GA Highway 20 in Cartersville, Georgia. The grounds include the main museum at more than 65,000 square feet with four exhibition galleries, a presentation theatre, on-site café, a 30,000 sq. feet storage garage and a large outdoor pavilion for car shows, concerts, cruise-ins, swap meets and more to be hosted throughout the year.
