Old Car City USA: A Forest of Forgotten Cars
For many years Old Car City USA was the worldwide go-to for rare auto parts collectors, restorers, and automobile enthusiasts.
When you’re looking for things to see in Cartersville, don’t forget to stop at Old Car City USA – a Forest of Forgotten Cars. This unique attraction is truly a photographer’s paradise. With more than 4,000 classic cars in stock and ready for picking one can easily understand why this was the community’s most internationally-visited attraction in the 1990s.
The “Mayor” of Old Car City, Walter Dean Lewis, grew up in junkyards and when he inherited the family business his father began in 1931, he decided to let nature run wild with the rare relics he collected for parts. Along six miles of trails there are many treasures waiting to be rediscovered and frozen in time in the photographer’s lens. Lewis’ creative expression also fills The Doo Dol Room, his formal name for what’s believed to be the south’s only Styrofoam cup art gallery, where hundreds of original pen and ink creations evoke smiles and great conversation. You might be tempted to carry home one of Lewis’ original folk-art paintings, but be sure to bring cash for admission and all purchases. And since cash is King at Old Car City USA, it’s only appropriate that you can also see the last car purchased by The King, Elvis Presley. The 1977 Lincoln Mark V was purchased by Elvis for his friend and hairstylist Larry Geller and is on display at Old Car City USA.
